Overview
The sanitary sewer system operates within the corporate limits of the City. Sewage is collected through an interconnected pipe system consisting of approximately 150 miles of 4 feet by 18 feet facilities. A flow equalization basin with a capacity of 60 million gallons is located at the site of the treatment facilities. The facilities treat an average of 4.7 to 5.0 million gallons per day.
After Treatment
After treatment, liquid effluent is discharged into the Mississippi River and solids are land applied. The City's current NPDES discharge permit which expires on May 31, 2008. The sewage system is currently in compliance with all applicable regulatory requirements.
Rates for sanitary sewer service are generally based on metered water service.
